EMIDEC console switches

Back to CONSOLE

Two sets of 36 switches and 36 lamps...

Top lamps:  last instruction executed
Top switches:  set manual instruction

Bottom lamps:  reflect register 16 - ie bottom switches
Bottom switches:  set binary value in register 16 (which can be accessed by the program)

There was a special set up of the console register switches for "rebooting" the machine (ie for manually loading the first program-stage form a standard drum location into "core store": 15 something something something, so something like...

0001 0001 ?????????? ?????????? 01111 000

We all became very adept at setting this switch arrangement with spread fingers, and also at clearing the switches afterwards by running a finger along underneath the bank of switches.
